Cheshire Game and Country Show

11th and 12th October 2008

Once again our Lurcher racing events have attracted some exceptional contenders over the season. With our introduction of the super-league title competition has never been fiercer.

Big thanks go to Mr. Duncon Blacklock from Countrylife Designs and Mrs. V. Pape from V & V Rosettes for sponsoring our racing events this year.

Ash owned by Russell King took the super-league over 23" straight racing title with no less than 8 wins, 1 reserve, 3 thirds and 1 fourth place to give a total of 135 points.

Tash owned by Helen Hulland took the super-league under 23" straight racing title with 8 wins, 1 third and 1 fourth place, a total of 114 points.

Stewie owned by Jayne Severn took the simulated coursing competition completely by storm with a late seasonal entry and a burst of excellent coursing. She won with 5 firsts, 1 second and 1 third a total of 80 points.

All received a prize purse of £200, dog presentation jacket, sash and trophy.

All remaining league table contenders were invited to a final run off to end the season. A full 350 yard stretch was the task for the straight racing; Mr. Mark Straw did an excellent job keeping the lure well ahead of these speedy dogs despite the poor weather conditions.

The Apache Cup, under 23" straight racing title went to Jordan Lowther with Dixie; last years runner up, with reserve going to Dave Shakespere with Kez; last years champion.

The Christie Cup, over 23" straight racing title went to Mr. M. Palmer with Tag, reserve went to Maria Hill with Max.

Last but not least to end the weekend was our simulated coursing final. 24 dogs are entered on the card, the slipper Mr. Paul Saga is ready with his double slips, the judge Mr. Paul James is high above the scene on his horse Harvey, the sun is our , the crowd waiting and they're off! 100 yards until the first turn, effort required to stay the course, another spurt of speed to reach the second turn a hard left, the dogs lean then straighten just before reaching the final turn and the home straight. A true test of stamina and power. No leeway given or taken as the dogs travel over the finish line. A new dual begins.

A brilliant afternoon enjoyed by all. Congratulations go to Sky owned by Mike Smith who won the final and Mason McLatchie who came reserve. Big thanks go to Mr. Paul Saga and Mr. Paul James for ensuring a fair competition.

All our Champions received a £100 prize purse and trophy. All reserves received £50 and trophy.
