Belvoir castle Game and Country Fair

4th and 5th October 2008

Saturday at Belvoir Castle heralded a record turnout of Terriers to take part in our Living heritage Challenge Cup Terrier Champion of champions Championship. With 24 Terriers in the ring, Mr. Shaun Harwood took 45 minutes to choose his top 4 dogs, and another 10 to place them.

First went to mark Hurst with Davey, a 4 1/2 year old lakeland, who received a £300 prize purse, presentation jacket, sash and trophy. Davey also went on to take the Triple Crown Terrier title honours and shield, a title reserved for the best of the best. Reserve went to last years winner Lesley Maxwell with Buzz who received £100 and trophy. 3rd and 4th place's went to Rob and June Malin with Meg, and Jose Hawkins with Buster who both received trophies

Not to be out done by the bad weather our Child Handling and Singleton Lurcher Championships were carried forward to the Saturday at Cheshire.

Rebecca Everest Drury, aged 15, took the child handling championship title and received the £80 prize purse, presentation jacket, sash and trophy. Reserve went to Ann Marie Holt, aged 15, who received £40 and trophy. Third place went to Ella Bowman aged 9, who received £20 and trophy. Fourth place went to Alfie Moseley aged 9 , who received £10 and trophy.

Thanks once again to Alvaston Scaffolding who sponsored this event and Mr. Tom Smith who judged and sponsored a medal for each child who took part.

With a brief break in proceedings it was time to present LurcherWorld's dog of the year award, a new initiative for the most promising hound of the season. It was our pleasure to award this to Lou Fowler with Fern, a smooth coated whippet cross. Lou has taken fern to new heights with her care and dedication, next year we are sure this will be the one to beat all records for showing and racing. (If only she could get a decent slipper!)

Over 25 Lurchers followed into the ring for the Singleton Cup Lurcher final. Mrs Karen Curtis was the judge who expertly and professionally handled each dog before picking out the final four. Mr. Paul Macey with Sarge had a truly exceptional day when he took first place, receiving the £300 prize purse, presentation jacket, sash and trophy as well as going on to take the Triple Crown Lurcher title honours and shield. Reserve went to Jayne Peace with Mischa who received £100 and trophy, 3rd and 4th places went to Mrs Harris with Pantom and Ian Fisher with Jess respectively who both received trophies.

Congratulations to all our showing championship winners over the 2008 season and a big big thank you to Living Heritage for their support and sponsorship.
